Cydlifiad Vyrnwy Confluence
by Angela Arnold
Efyrnwy yn sgleinio
yn dal i dyfu
muy o ddŵr
muy o ddŵr
yn llenwi
gorlenwi
a chaeau'n llenwi
gorlenwi
yn sgleinio yn eu tro
fields themselves glisten
filled-over-filled
water
more water
rain-growing glittering
nearly spent Vyrnwy
and Sister Severn is waiting
chwaer Hafren yn aros
yn aros i dyfu
i chwyddo
orlifo
to overflow
in her own slow turn
Efyrnwy=Vyrnwy: Welsh river that flows into the Hafren=Severn
in North Wales, often causing floods
that make mirrors of adjacent fields -
the Welsh words here are mirrored by the English text
and should not require translation,
just absorption, visually.
Angela Arnold lives in Wales. Her poems have been published widely in print magazines, anthologies and online, in the UK and elsewhere. Collection: In Between (Stairwell Books, 2023). She is also an artist, a creative gardener and an environmental campaigner.
