The Scent of Love

by Tamizh Ponni VP

“'அம்மா' means 'Mother' in Tamil. This word has always had the power to stir the spirits of my olfactory cells. The aroma of her French toast on a sunny Sunday morning, the fragrance of Javvadhu (a south Indian herbal perfume) wafting from her silk sarees, the scent of juices oozing through her fingertips while peeling Kamala oranges would all overwhelm me when I hear or see 'அம்மா'. This piece is a thread pulled out from the golden ode I've woven to honor the sacrifices and strength of an incredible woman.”
